Real inspirations from real life

“The ability to share a beautiful moment in life that was captured sometime in the past is truly astonishing. I cannot imagine a world where a person is not able to look at a photo that holds the power to inspire, to influence a divine emotion, or to motivate them to embark on their very own adventure in life.”
-Justin Frazier
Once I obtained my first-ever DSLR, a Nikon D80, I often brought it with me everywhere I went – driving across Alaska and hiking up mountains. The image above is a self-portrait at the summit of “Peak 3” in Anchorage, Alaska. It’s May, the sun is shining, and there’s still snow left on the mountains…so why not? A t-shirt, shorts, boots, goggles, and a board — you’re good to go. (Maybe a helmet, too).
The setup wasn’t fancy from a professional perspective — Nikon D80, 18-55 kit lens and a cheap Manfrotto tripod. But at the time, so many photographers were producing amazing photos with this camera body. It’s crazy to think about the change in technology since then. The 10mp Nikon D80 came out in 2006 and the year is now 2024. Sony has reached 61mp with the A7Rv on a 35mm (full-frame) sensor. In comparison to the D80’s cropped sensor, Fuji’s X-T5 has around 40mp on it’s cropped sensor.
Oh how the times have changed in the photography world...
